Hypnotherapy for Phobias
What is a phobia?
The NHS defines a phobia as "an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal." While it is perfectly normal to feel afraid of things that could genuinely harm us, phobias are different–the fear is disproportionate to any actual danger posed.
A phobia can have a profound impact on a person's quality of life, leading them to organise their lives around avoiding whatever triggers their anxiety, which in turn can restrict how they live, work and socialise

Why do people develop phobias?
We are not born feeling fearful. Phobias develop in the unconscious as a response to experiences, most commonly in early childhood. They are deeply personal and there is no single cause, but typically a phobia forms when the memory of an unpleasant experience becomes stored in the brain as a programme–one that tells the brain something is dangerous, setting up an irrational response to avoid anything similar in the future.
Rather than forcing you to confront your fear through exposure, which can often cause intense anxiety, cognitive hypnotherapy works to resolve it at the source. By accessing the unconscious mind, a cognitive hypnotherapist can help you understand the circumstances that drove you to develop your fear in the first place so you can address it directly
How does cognitive hypnotherapy treat phobias?
How many session will I need?
Most people find freedom from their phobia in just one session. Cognitive hypnotherapy produces fast, lasting results because it resolves the root cause of the fear, rather than simply desensitising you to it. This helps you break the pattern of behaviour driving your phobia, so your response can become more proportionate to the situation.
Please note that an initial consultation is required before treatment begins.
