Hypnotherapy for Imposter Syndrome
What is imposter syndrome?
Imposter syndrome is the persistent feeling that you haven’t earned your success and will one day be found out. It’s common among high achievers, and it often grows stronger with each promotion or new opportunity. You may over-prepare, avoid putting yourself forward, struggle to accept praise or put your achievements down to luck.
Micah Swann, Manager, London
“Taking the step to seek help is a battle in itself and from the first call Sophie was extremely understanding and showed a lot of compassion. Talking with her is extremely easy and you don’t feel rushed or the sense of ‘clock watching’. I cannot thank her enough!!”
What causes imposter syndrome?
There’s no single cause. It often begins with early experiences, such as high expectations at home or school, or feeling different from those around you. Over time, the unconscious mind learns that you must keep proving yourself to be safe, and that belief stays in place long after the evidence says otherwise.
How does cognitive hypnotherapy treat imposter syndrome?
Many people understand exactly where their imposter syndrome comes from, but understanding hasn’t been enough to change how they feel. Cognitive hypnotherapy works with the unconscious mind, where those beliefs were formed and are still held. Together we explore when the feeling shows up and what it’s trying to protect you from, then work to change the response so you can recognise your abilities and act with confidence.
What results can I expect?
Clients often tell me they feel calmer before big moments, can accept praise more easily and put themselves forward without second-guessing. For many clients, two sessions is all it takes to make a lasting change.
What is the cost of doing nothing?
Imposter syndrome rarely holds you back in obvious ways. It shows up in the promotion you didn’t go for, the idea you kept to yourself and the evenings spent over-preparing. Over a career, those small moments add up.
